Overseas Citizen of India - Toronto Consulate Dramas

Hello Fellow Indians,
I am creating this site to let other Indians to know what happens or the real process behind getting the Overseas Indian Citizenship card in Toronto.
I would like others to blog their experience here so that we can take this matter to Our Honorable Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh whom have said that the NRI's are the economic engine behind the growth of our Country.
My story: I have visited the Indian Consulate three times in Toronto during the month of April 2008 to get OCI card for myself and my family. I did not know it was a bitter experience or process in getting this OCI card. The Indian consulate only take maximum of 45 applicants a day ( not by per person, it is based on how many applicants in total) and people are there waiting from 4 AM in the morning to be in the first forty five. Most of the people whom I have spoken said this is there 4 or 5th time visiting the consulate for this, mainly this is because either there are more than 45 applicants a particular day or rejected by MR Mr. Kuldip K. Abrol who is the notorious officer (sorry here, I don’t have any kind words to express how bad he behaves to the people who come for the OCI- he treats you like a prisoner) in charge for OCI matters, some of the reason behind the rejections are listed below.
According to Mr/ Kuldip following is not right: (means he can reject your applications)

Your Indian passport says born in: Your Canadian Passport says Born in:

Delhi: New Delhi
Calcutta: Kolkatta
Bombay: Mumbai
Cochi, Kerala: Kerala

With my experience I had all of my papers correct except my kids (who born in Canada) did not had the live birth certificate which Ontario Government issues only based on special request.
Mr Kuldip repeatedly shouted at me and said there is no proof that these are your kids and said you can go now because your application is not filled correctly. I had beg to him that I can show all papers that are showing that these are my kids, but he did not want me to say a word rather he arguably debating his points that he will not accepct my application, even I was calm down and quite. I asked him how can you help me here, his response was, why should I help you? – I seen many people like you here and I am not here to help you.

There are lot of things to write here about the discussion I had with him. But I think it is not worth putting all those things here. I wish I should have recorded those things and put in youtube or somewhere where people can see how friendly is our Canadian Consulate in Toronto.

Anyways, I wish you all the best for you if you are a pserson applying for OCI… and please, please post yours or your friends story here so that others will know what to expect.

By the way: Don’t call the Indian consulate between 12PM and 3PM, they are on lunch break.. (yes, 3hour luch break with NRI’s money J )
